FACT CHECK: False news of military officer claiming Dollar price rise is due to less domestic production of dollars.

On February 20, a post from a Facebook account named Zaw Tun shared a screenshot of a news article that said military personnel discussed dollar price. The news article, allegedly published by a prominent media organization called Eleven Media Group further claimed that the military officer blamed the rise in prices of dollar on its low production domestically.

Though many people dismissed the ridiculous post as rubbish, many Facebook users expressed astonishment by reacting on the post and commenting on it. Hence, we fact checked the content and our findings are as follows: 

Fact Check

We checked the authentic and verified Facebook page of Eleven Media Group for the post. As per the screenshot posted by Zaw Tun, the post was published on February 20th. The time shown in the screenshot is 10:32AM. However, we could not find any article published by Eleven Media Group‘s page.  

Looking at the day-to-day schedule of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw on 20 February, there was no discussion on dollar prices scheduled on this day.

Conclusion

The screenshot shared by the Facebook user is not from the official account of Eleven Media Group and no such discussion has taken place in the Myanmar Union Parliament on February 20, 2020.
