Fact Check: The video of weapons and ammunition captured from Myanmar military by MNDAA being shared out of context

Social media posts along with a video record showing a pile of weaponry and ammunition is claiming to be of those seized by Myanmar army from Kuki National Army(KNA), which base along India-Myanmar border, got viral in major social media platform like X(Formerly Twitter) and Facebook. The claim is misleading, and found to be false. The video is of weapons and ammunition captured from Myanmar military in northern Shan state by Myanmar National Democratic Alliance(MNDAA).

“Weapons and ammunition for the Kuki National Army (KNA) and Kuki National Organizations (KNO) were seized by the Myanmar Army.

Fact Check

Using reverse image searches and keywords searches on Google lead to a video posted on October 31 by People’s Spring media, an information wing of National Unity Government(NUG) . The video is related to current battles in northern Shan state, near Chinese border in Myanmar. The video caption in Burmese translated into English read as follows.

“The seizure of a Myanmar army outpost in Hpawnghseng area of the Myanmar-China border by the three brotherhood alliances in October, in which a large amount of weapons and ammunition were seized- video from Three Brotherhood”

The three brotherhood alliance - an ethnic alliance of MNDAA, TNLA, AA - started military offensive named 1027 operation in Oct 27, 2023, and Myanmar military suffer a huge blows, lost control in at least five major border towns including Chinshwehaw. And the same video can also be found on Khit Thit media in Burmese language.

MNDAA regularly update weapons and ammunitions captured from Myanmar military through their information channels. The Kokang, a social media page of MNDAA information wing, confirm when reached through Facebook Messenger that the video is recorded the ammunition they seized after they captured Myanmar army stronghold.

Conclusion

The video is related to ammunition captured by MNDAA forces battling in northern Myanmar near China border. And the narration about weapons and ammunition for the Kuki National Army (KNA) by Myanmar army is found to be false.
